‘Pups and Pals Dog Grooming’ salon will be open from December 7 on Oxford Road, run by 27-year-old Yasmin Tomlinson.

Yasmin, originally from Blackhall, explained: “Everything we do has relaxation at it’s core, that includes giving dogs breaks when they need them, and being sensitive to the behaviour of the animals when creating the treatment plans.

“We only use natural products, so all our shampoos, treats and perfumes are 100% natural ingredients, and afterwards we like to set up a photo-shot for the dog’s mum or dad.”

Yasmin has a decade of experience in the trade, and has been running her own home-salon in Bishop Cutherbert for the past four years.

“In that time, I’ve only been able to reopen to new customers three times – I can’t keep up with the numbers.

“Expansion is 100% needed.”

The move into the shop space coincides with Yasmin taking on two new employees: an apprentice and another staff member to help with day-to-day business.

Over the past few weeks, the interior of the tanning shop has been transformed, with booths removed and replaced with a wet area consisting of baths and showers, a grooming section, and a photo-booth area.

“At home I’m currently working win a 7ft square area, but in the new place I’ll have about 40ft square” she explained.

“It’s absolutely huge, and my workman has done a great job – he’s absolutely flying through the electrics, plumbing and painting.”

Work is underway at the new Pups and Pals Grooming site

Yasmin said that although lockdowns have sadly put a lot of groomers out of business, it has also caused the public to appreciate the trade.

Shed added: “A lot of clients got new dogs over the pandemic, and have realised how difficult it is to cut and clip their own pets.

“I think my service is appreciated more than ever – as people see it’s about more than just playing with puppies all day.

“That being said, if the dogs are having fun, then I’m more relaxed and things run smoothly.”

The cost of treatment at Pups and Pals depends on the behaviour, coat condition and size of the dog.
